The Overlook at Thornton Apartments is going to get a new accessible playground especially for young children!
ACHA is proud to announce the Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) has awarded a $46,500 grant for an ADA compliant playground for young children (K-5th grade) and adjacent seating area. ACHA will conduct two community meetings this spring to engage residents to help with the playground design, construction, and activation. In fall 2018, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and the playground will be opened.
According to research from the American Academy of Pediatricians, low-income children often lack safe places to engage in unstructured playtime. ACHA is committed to not just providing affordable housing but also providing, with the help of partners like CHF, a home with complementary services and spaces where kids can play. ACHA and its partner nonprofit, Low Income Family Empowerment, could not be more excited to work with CHF to make this vision of an accessible playground for young children a reality.
