Community Policing Brings Joy to Families

Thirty-two Thornton and Westminster police officers teamed up with Adams County Housing Authority (ACHA) and Low Income Family Empowerment’s HIPPY early childhood education program, to make the holidays brighter at nine affordable housing properties and the Adams County HIPPY holiday party. Officers helped at each location with kids crafts and Santa photos.

Each event was attended by 50-150 children and their families serving a total of 900 children and family members. A total of 96 hours of community service was provided by Thornton and Westminster police departments. Many of the officers who participated are Student Resource Officers who have extensive interaction with the youth living at ACHA communities.

Additionally, Officer Walker from Thornton Police Department selected three families from Thornton properties for the KYGO Christmas Crusade. This “Santa Cops” program provides Christmas gifts, hand-delivered by officers, for families who otherwise would not have presents.

We are grateful for this contribution of officers’ time and based on the smiles and comments of those attending know these events have a great impact on promoting a positive image of police in the community. We look forward to more future partnerships with our law enforcement neighbors.
