National Night Out was celebrated at Unison communities on August 7th as part of the nation-wide community building event celebrating neighborhood camaraderie and police-community partnerships.
Ashley, Community Manager at Aztec Villa, chatted with me about NNO and what it means to residents and staff:
What did Aztec do for National Night Out?
We cooked out with hamburgers and hot dogs. We provided some sweet treats as well including fruit cups, cupcakes, and cotton candy. The kids (and employees) enjoyed two jump houses with slides. There was a constant flow of different Thornton Police officers who stopped by throughout the evening bringing little gifts for the kids. Some of them even joined in serving food.
Why is NNO important?
National Night Out is an important event that provides us an opportunity to grow trust in our community between residents and law enforcement. It’s always amazing to get to host National Night Out and bring the community together as one.
Any moments that stick in your mind from this NNO?
The Aztec staff joined the kids in the large jump house and the kids absolutely loved it! They kept asking us to get back in! I also was extremely proud of the personal touch Geneiva gave the event by making all of the fruit cups and rice crispy treats herself.
