Family and Community Vitality
Investing in the individual and collective power of our members so they can create the lives they aspire to live.
Community Organizing
Maiker Housing Partners believes the collective power of our members is the most important ingredient of our mission – to disrupt generational poverty. We support Love and Power community organizing within our affordable housing communities and across the organization. Our organizing model includes Love organizing: building relationships, trust, sense of belonging and shared purpose among neighbors living in a community together; Power Organizing: identifying issues, understanding community historical and current dynamics and advocating for change at the community, municipal and state levels; and Organizational Change: community members and Maiker working together to help Maiker walk the path of a member-centered organization.
Community Resource Navigation
Our members understand best what they and their families need and hope for. At Maiker, we have developed a network of partners across the community in areas such as senior services, emergency services, food banks, mental and behavioral health services, family resource center services and early childhood development resources, just to name a few. Our Community Resource Navigators get to know our members and help them connect to the resource(s) that support their journey. Our Community Resource Navigators and Community Organizers work together to build relationships and trust with our members. That trust is the foundation for the Family and Community Vitality programs and activities.
Two-Generation Programming
Maiker collaborates with the Early Childhood Partnership of Adams County (ECPAC) to offer two-generation programming for parents and families at Maiker communities. With ECPAC’s support, Maiker partners with local service providers that offer family-centered programs focused on childhood development, school readiness and lifelong stability. By providing parents and families with the resources they need for themselves and their child to succeed, we are strengthening our communities in Adams County. This programming replaced the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters program (HIPPY) at Maiker. If families are still looking to enroll into a HIPPY program, they can do so by reaching out to the Focus Points research center here.
